Proposal for new House in Greenwich, Lower North Shore, Sydney
The clients' brief was to develop a design prepared by a family friend, 'Gabrielle Melick Architecture & Interior design'.
The image of the 3D visualisation is my latest redesign of the home in keeping with the client's preferred overall concept of two pavilions set around a north facing lawn area.

While at Chateau Constructions, I worked in consultation with Rod MacDonald on this simplified compact yet spacious contemporary solution (below). The clients were very specific about the layout and favoured Gabrielle's long building divided into two skillion roofed pavilions. There were however, from our perspective, a number of issues with the design, primarily one of cost due to the size of the layout (understandably generated to maximise the northern exposure). Secondly, the original design raised concerns about overviewing to the neighbours as it was up to Chateau to satisfy council's strict guidelines. Thirdly, the block bordered a bush area and was subject to specific fire regulations regulating the use of building materials, leading to anticipated increased building costs over and above the norm. Another concern in aiming to keep within council's guidelines, was the steep slope of the land and the height at which a long building would need to be raised out of the ground, again with cost implications.
This solution presented to the clients (a significant deviation from their original design), achieved a compact modern house with many of the architectural features retained but most importantly with a saving of over a hundred square metres, aimed at reducing the cost estimates to be within the client's stated budget. These drawings represent a work in progress and are not the final design.
